I don't actually think that point 1 is that big a risk, assuming the government kept it's mitts well away from it - but yeah it'd be a tad embarrassing if the target wasn't met. Though of course short fall might just mean she got the stoat fur bathroom carpet rather than the mink.

Ooh a high speed yacht canal network I like that idea.

Thankfully I think I've just done my bit for this idea, though I'd chip in a few bob if it comes about and the government have no involvement

On the whole I'd have to agree but for two salient points:

1) The danger of a subscription is in not meeting the target. Can you imagine the embarrassed underling shuffling into ma'am's drawing room to tell her "Actually, there aren't enough people willing to fork out - so no yacht.

2) Anything is a better idea than high speed rail. Re-building the entire canal network and using exclusively royal yachts on it is a better idea than high speed rail.

Other than that, you're probably right. Good luck selling the idea though.

The "nothing to hide, you've nothing to fear" canard needs to be taken round the back of the chemical sheds and shot. The really insulting thing is of course that the terrorists we have today are rank amateurs compared to those we've fought in the past but both we are all being taught to take frit at our own shadows (including out leaders), So piece by piece we sacrifice hard won freedom.

Nope no requirement to carry ID cards yet, that one has been shot down for the time being. But yeah does seem like it's setting up the conditions for that scene in V-for-Vendetta where the young lass gets shot.

Of course bet breaking curfew ends up being a fine, so kerching. I would observe as well that to enforce the curfew they'll need an increased police presence which would probably have resolved the issue in the first place. Then again just use CCTV to track curfew breakers and then issue fixed penalty notices to the easy targets.

Of course if they had nothing to hide, they wouldn't get so upset about FoI requests and having to publish their expenses etc.

That looks an interesting site, shall watch for when you launch

Oh my Gods! Yes that's very sneaky. It's also rather scary the potential loss of personal freedoms. I keep hearing the old adage of "If you've nothing to hide then you've nothing to fear" but it just seems to me that under the guise of "protecting us from terrorism" we the public are loosing more & more of our rights. In fact worryingly we're handing them over. One day a purely innocent person will be in the wrong place at the wrong time through no fault of their own & maybe not have ID with them (correct me if I'm wrong, but that's NOT a legal requirement...YET) & get arrested! Their only crime being that they missed a train home & had to walk, hence failing to make curfew! Bah!

Thank you for your concise and erudite deconstruction of my arguments.
You do realise that using different names is more convincing if they're not on the same IP address?

Did it used to be a blind eye or has the law changed? 'Cos again I'm sure we got the odd drop of wine in restaurants brought to us by the waiters so ... But gain that may just have been common sense being applied
