As I noted the other day this week is apparently Alcohol awareness week which apparently is using the hashtag #alcoholaware2012. Being the socially responsible type I plan to be making use of that to pass on useful tips for the alcohol aware through out the week. Another responsible drinker Misanthrope Girl pointed out that as a responsible drinker one should be aware of how much alcohol one has to hand and where the nearest offy is. Which as it’s been a busy year avoiding tax this seemed a good moment to follow her example and check just how much I have to hand, just in case (wouldn’t do to run out after all). So a quick count in the “cellar” and other places it runs out I currently have:
- 25 gallons of various home brew beers (it’s been a good year)
- 4 gallon of commercial beer
- 5 gallons of home brew wine
- 2 gallons of whiskey
- 2.5 gallons of absinthe
- 3 gallons of assorted other spirits
- 23 random open bottles which I can’t be bothered to count
Which for the home brew means I’ve manged to avoid in the region of £300 pounds of tax, probably a bit more as I don’t tend to brew the weak stuff you get in most pubs and supermarkets these days. It does however leave me with a problem, what on earth am I going to drink at Christmas?
Oh and Alcohol Concern, I’ve never let a drink sneak up on me I hunt them down ruthlessly before they get the chance.

I’m aware of alcohol, right up to the point where it makes me unaware of anything ;)
It is my social responsibility to drink it all so the cheeeldren don’t get any. Someone has to do it.
Oddly I frequently achieve the same levels of awareness :)
You are as ever most public spirited, after all we all know that if those poor impressionable cheeeldren so much as see a drink label they’ll instantly turn into alcoholics and their livers will explode
