Maroon

In the words of the great philosopher Bugs Bunny it would seem that Richard Murphy is an utter maroon, for he has just tweeted: “Where did this absurd myth that the gov’ts money is “ours” come from? That time of year again

I’m on the last page of my calendar and so it dawns on me that we’re at that time of year again, when smug adverts from the government will have “friendly” cartoon chaps or amusing eccentric types telling us that handing over vast chunks of our money for the government to piss up the wall is actually quite a pleasant thing to do. I am of course referring to the traditional “tax needn’t be taxing” campaign which comes around to brighten everyone’s Christmas. The British tax system hate it or hate it

Thanks to other people posting things to the book of faces I stumbled across two rather differing views of the problems with the UK tax system. One from the Gaurdian that puts the blame largely on companies trying not to pay more tax than they have to and the other from the Telegraph who see the problem as being the system itself. From here I’d say the Guardian is doing an excellent job of describing the symptoms of the problems described by the Telegraph – I’m not sure I agree with what they seem to think is the cure though. … Continue reading
