In the pay of big Drinka

Wow I seem to have made it to the big time, or rather drinkuary has. It would seem that I’m in the pay of “big Drinka” over on the “Bad science” forums they’re discussing drinking and health related matters and someone linked to my humble endeavour and well it’s sparked a bit of a thread – which I shall be addressing on Drinkuary tomorrow, but this just tickled me so much I had to comment.

Scottish Eric seems to think I’m in the pay of big Drinka, can’t wait for those cheques to start rolling in, some people more reasonably think that pubs may be sponsoring the beer mats -if they are they’re stingy buggers so far it’s all been funded from my pocket and the top donation for the second batch of beer mats is a whole 20 quid. The donations are terribly generous as far as I’m concerned but if they’re all big Drinka can stretch to it doesn’t deserve the epitaph.

However the most amusing comment so far is this also from Scottish Eric

The campaign is allied to both Hands off our packs and Save our pubs and clubs (amend the smoking ban). Both of these are funded by the Tobacco Manufacturers Association.

If it was just an amateur laugh, would they encourage you to write to your MP? Respond to the governement’s alcohol strategy consultation? Link you to 3 petitions? Or to drinks industry campaigns against minimum price and the beer duty escalator?

I think I’m pretty good at spotting industry manipulation when I see it.

Well first off Scottish Eric, I’m in the pay of Big Oil not big Drinka, though if they want to throw me a bung I won’t complain. The Drinkuary campaign isn’t allied to anything as such, but those two campaigns I link to are also to my mind matters of liberty regardless of who funds them.

It is an amateur campaign but it isn’t a laugh, it’s not just paid campaigners that can be serious you know. I try to link to the best sources of data I can and CAMRA is hardly industry it’s just a popularly supported group and unlike alcohol concern and other fake charities doesn’t get state funding.

I linked to the petitions and to the consultation paper because I want people to get involved, if they are against minimum pricing, further restrictions on drinking and against our taxes being shoveled to lobbying charities then I want to make it as easy as possible for them to do something about it. I’m afraid this isn’t industry manipulation, this is just an angry amateur trying to be as effective as possible on bugger all budget and limited resources.

Glad to clear that up.

Strange goings on in Bexley

It would seem that the overly cozy relationship between Bexley council and the local police is still going strong into the new year, read more over at Bexley is Bonkers. For the short version when a judge decides that almost everything the police say is a fabrication well then Houston we have a problem.

Happy new year

Slightly late I know, but happy new year to everyone that reads my inane driveling. To start the new year on a lighter note, here’s a cartoon – I suspect that climate science works a lot like this:
