A few days ago a meteor exploded above Russia and an asteroid had a close fly by with the earth. Such is the state of science education and climate alarmism that a new anchor asked if the asteroid coming so close was due to global warming. I wonder though if I’m being too harsh on the news anchor when “scientists” are claiming that aliens might object to the environmental damage humans have caused on Earth and wipe us out to save the planet”, and NASA have stated that the Russian meteor wasn’t linked to the asteroid – so really we can’t expect too much of a news anchor. From a knowledgeable type elsewhere comes this observation:
“[NASA’s] spokespeople are adamant that there is no link with the DA14 asteroid despite the fact that such displaced asteroids are well known to travel in clusters of debris and despite the fact that there are several physically plausible scenarios to link the two. We’re being asked instead to believe in – suitably astronomical odds – of 1 in 100 million of the two occurring together coincidentally.”
So given odds that would count as settled science for linking two events if we were talking climate change perhaps we should take the news anchor seriously, so I gave some though to the mechanisms that might be involved and came up with this.
“Everyone knows that things expand as they get warmer, so as our climate inexorably warms up due to man made climate change earths atmosphere must expand into space. with our atmosphere occupying a greater volume in space the chances of it interacting with passing asteroids obviously increases, and as these asteroids pass through our dangerously expanded atmosphere they experience drag, which slows them down enough to plummet to earth. Now some people will no doubt claim that the atmosphere won’t expand that much or have that much of an effect but don’t forget the expanded atmosphere will also change the magnet field that surrounds the earth and the effects of that field reach far further than the gaseous elements of the atmosphere. So there you have it the science is settled, man made climate change will herald a new era of meteor strikes and meteorite impacts.”
(Dear, IPCC I’ll happily present this vital research at your next conference for a suitable fee)
