Well more freedom demo at the Vaults bar in Stony Stratford, but given Councillor Bartlett’s behaviour so far it does look like we’re dealing with an intellectually unarmed man. Realistically the chance of Mr Bartletts proposals “to ban smoking outside” going through even without a demo are very very slim – but of course we’ve seen that before many times. The first time a ban is proposed it’s laughed at an ignored, so next time round the lack of protest is cited as evidence that people don’t mind. Small M monarchist

Having muttered the other day about disliking being turned from a “subject” into a “citizen”. A recent post over at Old Holborns reminded me of a video linked to by Archbishop Cranmer: So the alleged cost of the Monarchy is no reason to get rid of them, as they don’t cost us anything. Happy Birthday Magna Carta

Today is the 796th anniversary of the first great charter – the magna carta of 1215. Now some people think that it’s pretty much a busted flush these days, having been all but entirely repealed. Others seem to think that it’s irrelevant because we’re now a parliamentary democracy though the evidence suggests that despite them changing our passports to say “citizen” rather than “subject”* we are still actually a constitutional monarchy.
