Following on from my previous post where I said the archive made a nice little slide show, I decided it should be put to music, enjoy…

The melt water pools start forming around July 10th, reach the Buoy by July 19th (just), It’s not floating free (judging by how the buoy sits in the water) until July 25th, by July 27th it’s being pushed out of the water again and on July 28th it’s back on the ice. Yet July 22nd is when the climate changed apparently, I guess it got bored and changed back.

Oh and via Watts up with that there is the additional minor detail that the camera in question isn’t terribly near the north pole anymore.

The north pole has melted Even as the science turns out to be even less settled than some of us have thought, the temperature continues to not rise and the estimates of the amount it might rise by hed ever lower the climate change alarmists continue undaunted. It seems that on July 22nd the North Pole became a lake and they have a photo to prove it! If that photo wasn’t enough to convince you, and if you’re so heartless that you don’t care about the increasing polar bear numbers proving they’ve all drowned due to global warming then consider this terror scenario that has been accompanying that image (from 1,000,000 Strong Against Offshore Drilling)
“In response to the meltdown underneath his headquarters, Santa Claus has moved his operations into exile in an unknown country. At his last North Pole press conference on July 21, he urged especially children to push for action on climate change since adults have clearly not been doing enough to stem and reverse global warming. When questioned by reporters, he refused to make a prediction whether the upcoming Christmas season will be affected and whether or not he will visit high level carbon polluters.”

Yep, that’s right due to global warming Santa Claus will cancel Christmas!! Quite frankly with this level of crass manipulation I’m amazed that they didn’t claim that Santa has drowned and that the only way for children to save him would be to rise up and destroy all cars and power stations. I may be a bit of a softy but I really do have top wonder about the morals and ethics of a campaign that seemingly so happily stoops to such levels.

There’s a less batshit insane account of the formation of this lake on live “science” (I think in this case putting “science” in quotes is called for). Where they do acknowledge that melt water ponds like this do form, which I’m guessing will be why that camera was put on a floating buoy to start with. In fact given how much of a pain it is to get stuff out to the north pole, it’s almost as if the people who put the buoy there rather expected melt water pools to form and took precautions against it. Mind the live science guys do seem to think that the Artic skies should be full of snow and ice and howling gales all year round, Summer must really be terribly confusing for them.

Of course if you head over to the site the image came from they tell a rather different story:
“3) Are you alarmed at the appearance of the water near the North Pole?

No, melt ponds form every year, and considering Web Camera 1, the melt pond coverage at this location (the cameras and buoys have drifted to about 85°N, 5°W) looks pretty typical for this time of year and this location. Actually, we are more concerned about the extensive melt pond coverage that we have found on the Alaskan side of the Arctic Ocean as part of our Office of Naval Research-funded Seasonal Ice Zone Reconnaissance Surveys on U.S. Coast Guard Arctic Domain Awareness flights.”

But it’s still a sign of catastrophic climate change right?… nope seems not
“4) Is the appearance of the pond due to global warming?

No, not specifically. These melt ponds are a normal part of the seasonal cycle of the sea ice. With respect to global warming, we are more concerned when we see warm air temperatures in the winter that inhibit ice growth and the appearance of heat in the ocean that would melt the bottom surface of the ice.”

Oh and as of today the buoy is once more back on solid ice, so guess Santa won’t have to cancel Christmas after all.

Whilst that nice Mr Cameron is killing free speech and trying to introduce state censorship of the internet to protect us from looking at dirty pictures another more worrying bit of legislation is crawling it’s way through parliament. Via the book of face my attention has been brought to an article by Scriptonite Daily concerning the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Bill 2013-14 which is about to enter the report stage.

I’ve not read the entire bill yet, it’s 175 pages, but I shall get back to that and go through it section by section, but a quick check suggests that Scriptonite Daily is spot on the money. This bill will make being annoying illegal, allow all sorts of people to tell you to move on and break up assemblies and confiscate your property whilst they’re at it. You will soon be able to get into trouble if officer things on the balance of probability you might be going to engage in behaviour capable of causing an annoyance!! (On the bright side this will finally free the land of the blight of mimes and mariachi bands). Oh and the conditions they put on you following such an event can last as long as the court decides.

Close to home for me are the new “Public Space Protection Orders”, which according to Scriptonite:

“PSPOs will be granted where ‘activities carried on or likely to be carried on in a public place will have or have had a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those in the locality’ (p21). They can be used to restrict an activity or require people to perform an activity in a certain way. They require substantially less consultation than current alcohol free zones or dog control zones and rather than applying to everyone, they can be applied to specific groups of people (the homeless, the unemployed, racial/religious groups etc.) – opening the door for discrimination. These rules could see homeless people or young people lawfully excluded from public spaces.”

Groups of two or more people will also be able to be dispersed by these same authorized people. So if a PCSO thinks you and your mate might harass alarm or distress people near by, that’s you out of the area for as long as they say, leaving by the route they say and sans any property the plastic thinks is anti-social. Oh and the law at present doesn’t define the limit of an area so in theory you could be dispersed from the UK.
