Do you really support protecting all sub cultures against hate crime?

My friends feed continues to be full of people rejoicing at Greater Manchester police not treating everyone as equal before the law, and calling for the extension of hate crime legislation to include alternative subcultures and as the Sophie Lancaster campaign says: “To campaign to have the UK Hate Crime legislation extended to include people from alternative subcultures or Lifestyle and Dress.” The press is even being terribly glad about it and people are writing articles praising this new attack on equality. Having returned from my latest travels normal lack of service will be resumed shortly. In the meantime may I draw your attention to this article over at Harry’s Place. Who are reporting that the bastion of free speech and liberty that is “Unite against fascism” have just appointed a new vice chair Azad Ali of the Islamic Forum Europe, proponent of Sharia law, opposer of democracy and Hamas supporter. On the subject of symbols

Whilst I’m on the subject of the power of symbols a while back Captain Ranty reported that it’s now terribly naughty according to the EU to use the “Keep Calm and carry on” image that the Government created back in 1939 as: The EU has granted an EU Community Trade Mark to ‘KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON’ meaning that only one company may use the slogan for clothing, mugs, posters and other memorabilia.
